Call for Papers
Dear Scholars,

The 5th International Symposium on Turkish Language Teaching and Turkology in the Balkans, to be held in 2026, will take place in Skopje between November 05-07, 2026, in collaboration with the International Balkan University. The main theme of this year's symposium is "Folk Literature and Oral Culture in the Balkans." Throughout history, the Balkan geography has been a region where diverse cultures interacted, giving rise to a rich heritage of oral culture and folk literature. In this context, oral narratives, folk poetry, folkloric elements, and cultural memory not only carry the traces of the past but also play a crucial role in contemporary identity construction processes.

This symposium aims to examine the historical development, contemporary transformations, and interdisciplinary approaches to folk literature and oral culture in the Balkans. Evaluating elements of oral culture from the perspective of Turkish language teaching and Turkology is also one of the key focal points of the symposium.

Participation in the symposium is free of charge. Accommodation, catering, and transportation expenses of the participants will be covered by the Symposium Organizing Committee.

The full texts of the symposium papers evaluated and accepted by the Scientific Committee will be published in the Proceedings Book by UNYT Press and released by the UNYT Balkan Research Center.
